LALIQUE ART X HAN MEILIN UNVEIL NIU WANG WANG, “THE FLOURISHING OX”
Launch: November 3, 2025
Lalique Art presents Niu Wang Wang (牛旺旺), a new crystal creation born of the encounter between the Maison’s master glassmakers and the vision of Chinese artist Han Meilin. Celebrated for the breadth of his artistic language, Han Meilin transforms an ancestral symbol of strength into a work of contemporary poetry.
AN ENDURING ARTISTIC DIALOGUE
This new creation continues a story begun several years ago, when Han Meilin and Lalique gave life to Yuan-Yuan and Meng-Meng, two panda sculptures whose rounded forms and gentle expressions captured a moment of quiet harmony. These works, like Niu Wang Wang today, embody the dialogue between cultural heritage and the artistry of Lalique crystal.
THE SCULPTURE
Niu Wang Wang – “Flourishing Ox” – reinterprets the noble animal with a language of pure, essential lines. The powerful stance is softened by the curve of the back and the tilt of the head, creating a silhouette that is at once strong and serene. The proportions are deliberately balanced, evoking a sense of rooted stability while suggesting the potential for movement, as if the animal were about to step forward.
The surfaces are a play of contrasts: broad, satin-polished areas diffuse the light with a gentle radiance, while repolished highlights define the contours and capture glints of brilliance. The abstraction of the form invites interpretation – the strength of the flourishing ox distilled into a harmonious composition of mass, line, and light. This sculpture is revealed as a promise of abundance, good fortune, and prosperity.
Available in clear crystal, gold luster, and pink luster, each finish brings its own reading of the work. In clear crystal, the purity of the design is revealed in full clarity; in gold luster, the sculpture acquires a warm, solar glow; in pink luster, it radiates a delicate, contemporary softness.
SAVOIR-FAIRE
In Lalique’s Alsace workshops, the creation of Niu Wang Wang begins with molten crystal, gathered and shaped by the hands of master glassmakers. Once cooled, each piece is refined through precise carving, its surface satin-polished to create depth and softness.
For the lustered editions, gold or pink tones are delicately applied by hand on the crystal before a final firing, allowing the colour to reveal its full radiance upon the surface of the crystal.
ARTISTIC DIRECTION & LEGACY
Imagined by Han Meilin and developed under the direction of Marc Larminaux, Artistic and Creative Director, together with the Lalique Creative Studio, Niu Wang Wang remains faithful to René Lalique’s founding vision: drawing inspiration from nature, capturing its essence, and elevating it through exceptional craftsmanship into a work that stands the test of time.
